Performance Bohtos dál dat beana / And then the dog can come

8. February 2023

In connection with Sami Week 2023, the Sami National Theatre - Beaivváš - the performance Bohtos dál dat beana / And then the dog can come by Jon Fosse.

This is a story about the love between a man and his dog, about blood revenge and the restless waiting. «Shoot the dog,» I say. And I see her standing and looking down. The dog can't have been killed, it's not possible to kill dogs. She says that the dog has been shot. Someone has killed the dog. He's shot the dog and he's going to die. Tonight he's going to die.".

Jon Fosse himself has said this about the dog as a motif: «I think the dog has something to do with language-less understanding, and maybe I'm trying to approach, to write out, a kind of language-less understanding, for example in the pauses in the play. Having said that, it sounds a bit wrong. I think we have to be preoccupied with something, wait for something, for the Dog, for God, for the Girlfriend, for Godot.»

The performance is suitable for young people and adults. Lasts for approx. 70 minutes. The stage language is North Sami, with Norwegian subtitles.
