20. February 2026

We have now opened our exhibition about our eminent duojár traditional and artistic craftsman, Håvard Larsen. The exhibition shows some of Larsen's works over 40 years, and is part of a project in which we have documented his work as a life as a duojár. Håvard Larsen was thanked for his lifelong efforts by the Mayor of Balsfjord, Laila Johannesen, Chairman of the Nord-Troms Council and Mayor of Kvænangen, Kai Petter Johansen, and political advisor for Samediggi, Aina Madelén Nordsletta Aslaksen. Kåfjordkoret and KvääniÄäni contributed with the welcome song Hyvän Illan and ended with a thank you, the song Giitu by Nils Aslak Välkeapää. The project was realised with the support of the Swedish Arts Council and the Sami Parliament.

Thank you to all of you, and to our many visitors who made this a memorable day.

We at the Centre for Northern Peoples are very grateful to have been given the opportunity to manage and communicate Håvard Larsen's duodji. It is an honour!

On our web portal nordligefolk.no you can learn more about Håvard Larsen and his art. Among other things, RettVest film by Johannes Vang interviewed Larsen as part of the project. Here is also a great film «A year with the artist Håvard Larsen», made by Lars Nilssen, which was shown on TV2 in 2001. Click on this link: Håvard Larsen - Northern peoples

The exhibition will be open to the public until the end of June 2026. Take the opportunity to drop by!
