Who deserves the Buošši Prize!

Do you know anyone who has worked to highlight the Skolt Sámi language and culture, be it individuals, teams, or associations? Then you can nominate them as candidates for the Buošši Prize, which will be awarded for the first time at Riddu Riđđu.

Riddu Riđđu and the Centre for Northern Peoples will present the Buošši Prize during this year's Riddu Riđđu. In this way, they will honour those who have made a positive contribution to Sámi language and culture.

The award presenters are now asking the public for suggestions for award recipients. The person or persons must have a connection to Nord-Troms: Kåfjord, Storfjord, Lyngen, Nordreisa, Kvænangen or Karlsøy.

Proposals with justification should be sent no later than 1 June to buossi@riddu.no

Sandra Márjá West, festival director at Riddu Riđđu, is proud to announce the brand new cultural award:

– Many people have made a significant effort to revitalise the sea Sámi language and culture, and we want to highlight them. There are many awards in the world, but the greatest honour is when your own people honour you. We hope this can be an encouragement for the many dedicated individuals who are putting a lot of effort into our people's future, in addition to marking our sea Sámi history, says West.

Svein O. Leiros, Managing Director of Davvi álbmogiid guovddáš / Centre for Northern Peoples, is also looking forward to honouring significant cultural figures in the region:

– We are incredibly pleased to be able to present this award together with the Riddu Riđđu Festival. It is important to highlight our coastal Sámi cultural heritage. It is also a great honour that the winner is being celebrated at Riddu Riđđu, our coastal Sámi pride, says Leiros.
