Katarina Barruk writes and sings in Ume Sámi, a language that is on UNESCO's list of critically endangered languages but which many Ume Sámi people are reclaiming today. Barruk invites audiences to participate in her powerful concerts, where she captivates listeners with her strong, distinctive voice in a contemporary musical expression. Her music is a blend of atmospheric pop, yoik, and improvisation, addressing themes ranging from love to the struggle for language. All the time focusing on what it's like to be a young Sámi woman today.
