The art exhibition \u00abI'm a S\u00e1mi Boy\u00bb by Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u is an interdisciplinary project that explores S\u00e1mi masculinity through duodji (S\u00e1mi crafts), queer art, performance and film.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition features works by several artists, with duoj\u00e1r and visual artist Kai Mikkel Balto as the main artist. Balto was named Young Artist of the Year at Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u in 2024, and was therefore given the opportunity to curate this year's art exhibition at the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00abI'm a S\u00e1mi Boy\u00bb invites young S\u00e1mi artists to reflect on macho culture and gender roles in S\u00e1pmi. This is not just an exhibition - it's an invitation to an open conversation about gender, identity and power in S\u00e1pmi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Riddu Sessions 2025:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2024, Kai Mikkel Balto was named Young Artist of the Year by Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u Festiv\u00e1la, and has since participated in Riddu Sessions, the festival's own programme for emerging S\u00e1mi artists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year's Riddu Sessions takes the form of an art exhibition entitled \u00abI am a Sami boy\u00bb by Kai Mikkel Balto, which also serves as the official festival exhibition at Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u Festiv\u00e1la 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through Riddu Sessions, audiences are invited to explore the breadth of Balto's artistic practice in both duodji (Sami crafts) and visual art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
