Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u and the Centre for Northern Peoples are launching Stream S\u00e1pmi, a concert series featuring S\u00e1mi artists. First up are the young S\u00e1mi talents Emil and L\u00e1vre. The concert is on Friday 5 June at 8 PM and can be watched both online and from the cultural hall at the Centre for Northern Peoples.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emil Karlsen (22) and L\u00e1vre Johan Eira (19) are a new musical collaboration in S\u00e1pmi. They are working on an album that explores dream worlds of days gone by and the present day. Joining them for the concert on 5 June will be Resirkulert drummer Joakim \u00c5smund Hansen. The music is a mix of joik and songs with S\u00e1mi lyrics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 I'm incredibly excited to play and happy to collaborate with such talented Sami artists, especially L\u00e1vre, with whom I've worked most closely. It's been an intense few days of writing, so the songs are as fresh as they come, says Karlsen.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The concert will be streamed live on Facebook and YouTube, but it will also be possible for 50 people to watch the concert in the Kultursalen at the Centre for Northern Peoples. Capacity is limited, so it's a case of being an early bird.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emil Karlsen is known to many as the vocalist in the band Recycled<\/em>. In 2019, Karlsen was named Young Artist of the Year by Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u. Over the past year, Karlsen has interpreted several songs by \u00c1illoha\u0161 and has had the opportunity to delve deeper into joik, particularly exploring Sea S\u00e1mi joik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L\u00e1vre Johan Eira (19) is from Kautokeino. He has performed at the Easter Festival in Kautokeino, and in 2019 he released the single Beaivenieida<\/em>. His music has S\u00e1mi lyrics and the melodies are based on joik.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 It\u2019s good to be able to support artists and technical suppliers during this difficult time. At the same time, I think it\u2019s important that S\u00e1mi music also gets visibility despite the cancellation of S\u00e1mi festivals, says Sandra M\u00e1rj\u00e1 West, festival director at Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"We are proud to have achieved this great collaboration, and look forward to once again being able to present high-quality S\u00e1mi music from our cultural hall at the centre,\" says managing director Svein Leiros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stream S\u00e1pmi, which is a collaboration between Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u Festival, the Centre for Northern Peoples, and NRK S\u00e1pmi. The project is supported by the Norwegian Arts Council and the S\u00e1mi Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
