In the fourth, and currently last, episode of Stream S\u00e1pmi, we can proudly present S\u00e1mi biggest and most prominent artist. With her music, Mari Boine has captivated audiences and inspired indigenous artists worldwide.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now we are preparing the stage for world-class music. On Friday, June 26th at 8:00 PM, it will be possible for the whole world to experience Mari Boine herself as she is streamed from our cultural hall at the Centre for Northern Peoples. With her are a star-studded team of musicians: Georg Buljo, Gunnar Augland and Svein Schultz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mari's first performance in K\u00e5fjord was in 1989, and since then she has performed numerous times at Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u. The artist has previously stated that she feels at home when she comes to K\u00e5fjord.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Through Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u, the S\u00e1mi strengthen their identity. By showcasing the power and colours that reside within us, it also opens the eyes of non-S\u00e1mi. I have done the same with my music. Being different from the European \u00abmainstream\u00bb is Riddu's strength. I am in love with the festival.<\/em>

When Mari Boine made her debut as an artist in the early 80s, her rage was her driving force. Since then, she has inspired indigenous artists worldwide to fight against oppression, colonisation, and injustice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although Mari Boine's music is firmly rooted in S\u00e1mi cultural heritage, she has allowed it to be influenced by music from a variety of different cultures and genres. Traditional and new are linked to jazz, folk music, rock and pop. Her productions are therefore often described as world music, and she has received a number of awards for her work. In 2018, she received the Spellemann Honorary Award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An important artist<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 Mari Boine has been an important artist for Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u because of the way she has highlighted sea S\u00e1mi people. 'Mearras\u00e1pmela\u017e\u017eii' gives voice to the strong history that people here have lived through, says Sandra M\u00e1rj\u00e1 West, festival director for Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 It's wonderful to conclude this exciting collaborative project, Stream S\u00e1pmi, with Mari Boine herself on our very own cultural stage in Manndalen. Mari Boine is, of course, one of the great, if not the greatest, cultural bearers within S\u00e1mi music. We are very much looking forward to this and anticipate that tickets will sell out fast, says the general manager of the Centre for Northern Peoples, Svein Leiros.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stream S\u00e1pmi is a collaboration between Riddu Ri\u0111\u0111u festival, Centre for Northern Peoples, and NRK S\u00e1pmi, who wanted to support S\u00e1mi artists at a time when they have lost many other jobs. The project is supported by the Arts Council Norway and the S\u00e1mi Parliament.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
