On 26 October, we will open the exhibition B\u00e5\u00e5stede - Return of Sami cultural heritage. More than two thousand artefacts from the collection of the Norwegian Folk Museum will be returned to the Sami museum units in Norway. The artefacts, images and texts in the exhibition are a selection made by the Sami museums. The exhibition gives a picture of the rich Sami cultural heritage that is being returned.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The exhibition was first shown in Trondheim during the celebration \u00abTr\u00e5ante 2017\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The B\u00e5\u00e5stede project gives the S\u00e1mi people an opportunity to take control of their own history. Our chosen artefacts are of great importance to us as an institution, as well as to the preservation and dissemination of our regional cultural heritage. They open up opportunities to talk about and reflect more broadly on various social issues and traditional knowledge. They reactivate the collective memory and offer a new door to stories and traditional knowledge. They evoke memories and emotions, contribute to recognition and build bridges to stories and traditions - to what has been suppressed, under-communicated and forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
