Búošši is a local term and a big compliment. Búošši is someone who is eager, diligent, and hardworking, and who doesn't give up. And these are exactly the kinds of people we need in Sápmi!
It is said that the greatest honour is to receive honour from one's own. And we have many we should honour. The jury received very strong nominations, but this year's award winner is an exceptionally important carrier of language and culture who has persevered for many years, but has never highlighted herself. The winner, Bjørg Fossli, is the very definition of Buošši.
Bjørg is passionate about sea Sami food culture and is known for her excellent rognbollesuppe (roe dumpling soup). She has been involved in the kindergarten as a cultural and language resource, and has been a presenter at the Centre for Northern Peoples on sea Sami food traditions. Buoššien Bjørg is an important language bearer in our area.
Not a year has gone by where she hasn't been involved with Riddu Riđđu. She's been here this year too, making sure the drying racks were put up. And as she says herself: “What else are you supposed to do? Sit at home and knit?”
