In the duo Arvvas Steinar Raknes and Sara Marielle Gaup meet through jazz, joik and americana, creating a new, raw and groundbreaking expression. The music is beautiful, stripped-down and melodious, yet spontaneous and playful. Raknes, with his raspy voice and innovative antics on his double bass, is an orchestra in his own right. Together with Gaup's traditional and innovative joik, Arvva's music merges naturally, like two rivers meeting. The two musicians complement each other through their opposites.

Sara Marielle Gaup
He is one of the foremost young joik performers, known for his charismatic stage presence and unique way of using his voice. Joik is the traditional Sami way of singing. She owes her musical heritage to her parents, family and generations before. Sara Marielle masters and blends the old joik style with modern joik, creating her own joik style. She leads workshops, does solo performances and various musical projects with a variety of musicians. Sara Marielle is best known for the acclaimed and critically acclaimed Sami band Adjágas, which blends joik with a range of modern influences and has toured all over the world. She started performing on stage at a young age and through years of practice has become a strong and sought-after artist.

Steinar Raknes
He is one of Norway's foremost double bassists, vocalists and songwriters. As a bassist, he is often compared to the legendary Charles Mingus, and his vocals in projects such as Stillhouse are reminiscent of both Tom Waits and Bruce Springsteen. Raknes is known from his collaboration with Chick Corea in the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and has played an important role in the development of Norwegian jazz over the past 10 years, including through the bands Urban Connection (Spellemannsprisen 2001), Ola Kvernberg Trio and The Core. The bassist completed his studies at the jazz academy in Trondheim in 1999, and taught there from 1999 to 2006. After graduating from the conservatory, he began a collaboration with joik Inga Juuso, which lasted until she passed away in 2014. The bassist has played at most of the leading jazz festivals in Europe, in numerous concert halls and jazz clubs on all continents and has contributed to a large number of CD productions. Raknes has collaborated with Michael Brecker, Chick Corea, Bill Payne and Kim Wilson, among others.
