Due to the serious infection situation, we, together with Kajsa Balto and her band, have decided to cancel the planned Christmas concert at the centre tomorrow, 14th December.
WhatChristmas Concert with Kajsa Balto
When14th December, 7:00 PM
WhereThe Sámi Centre / Centre for Northern Peoples, cultural hall
Organisers: Centre for Northern Peoples
We find this very disappointing but hope there will soon be another opportunity to invite Kajsa Balto and her band back to our stage. Everyone who has purchased tickets in advance will receive a refund.
Kajsa Balto has in recent years distinguished herself with her unique vocal expression and strong interpretive skills. Her previous release «Buot eallá» received widespread acclaim and was described by NRK as «one of the most magical moments of the 2020s in Norwegian music.».
She is now active with the Christmas album «Sámi juovllat,» a beautiful and long-awaited contribution to the diversity of Christmas music. Sámi skis means Sámi Christmas, and consists of traditional Christmas carols and Christmas songs translated into Sami, in addition to newly written material – all in the Northern Sami language.
In interplay with the brilliant musicians in the band, the result is a rarely powerful experience that touches and thrills.
“«Buot Eallá» was the most magical moment of the 2020s in Norwegian music. With cello and percussion, electric guitar and joik, Kajsa and the band forged their own path, with her voice as the redeeming instrument. It has a closeness and an earnestness that gives me goosebumps, again and again.”
